I suggest you try this with some plain white paper first to get the technique down before using your pretty paper.
The paper should be similar to printer paper and it should be stiff enough to hold a crease.
The squares I used were 4×4″.

I can't even get my to open after 4 attempts of making a card
I made this last night for my mum and she was really happy with it! I got half flowers for the first 2 flowers but then watched that part of the video again. I used double sided cello tape instead of glue dots. I love pop up cards! (ps I'm posting from New Zealand)
Just finished mine!! It was definitely easier than it looked. I had no trouble folding the flowers thank goodness. I got the glue dots on a plastic roller thing, and figuring that out was probably the hardest part! Haha.

Does not work with paper smaller than 4"x4"
hey rammy! i tried this last night and something went wrong. i followed all of the directions and read them on the martha stewart website. the flowers looked correct and assembled fine and i left it to dry over night but everytime i would try to open the card the flowers would lift off the page and rip or undo themself before the rest of the card was even opened yet do you know what i did wrong? +yoyomax12 – the diet free zone
